Bike Shifting in HSR Sector 7

Most bikes parked along the cross roads of HSR Sector 7 roll on alloy wheels and tubeless tyres. They are tough on the road and surprisingly easy to scuff on a loading ramp. And if the tyres are nearly worn out, the move is a good moment to ask whether to replace them now or at the new address.

Bike Shifting

Bike Shifting in HSR Sector 7, Bangalore

Sector 7 of HSR Layout has a lot of rented flats and a lot of people who move every couple of years. Many of them have learned to do the arithmetic before a move: what is worth carrying, what is cheaper to replace at the other end. A bike is always worth carrying. But its wheels and tyres raise a smaller version of the same question, and they need a bit of care of their own. For leaving HSR for a new job, there is the HSR Layout bike page. This one looks at alloy rims, tubeless tyres and what they mean on a moving day.

Start with the rims. Alloy wheels are cast in one piece, and they are strong where it counts, but their painted or machined edge marks easily. The places where that happens in a move are predictable: a kerb or ramp edge brushed as the bike is walked out, a strap hooked round a wheel instead of the frame, the wheel resting against a hard edge on the vehicle. So the crew keeps straps on the frame and never round the rim, the wheels sit square and cannot roll, and nothing hard touches the edge. A scuffed rim is cosmetic, but it is annoying, and it is avoidable.

If your rims already carry kerb scrapes, and on a city bike they often do, point them out at collection. They go on the condition note with everything else, and you get a copy. That way a scrape you picked up parking last year cannot later be blamed on the carrier.

Then the tyres. Tubeless tyres hold air well and lose it slowly when punctured, which is one of the reasons bikes use them. For transit that is useful: a tubeless tyre with a slow leak will still hold its shape while the bike is on the vehicle. The crew does not pump tyres or repair punctures, but a bike on a soft tyre can still be walked and loaded. If a tyre is completely flat, tell us at booking, because pushing a bike on a flat tubeless tyre can damage the tyre's edge where it seals against the rim.

This is where the arithmetic comes in. If your tyres are nearly worn out, with little tread left or cracks in the sidewall, there is no reason to replace them just for the move. The bike is carried, not ridden, and tread depth does not matter on the vehicle. It does matter the day you ride at the new address. So many owners here wait and fit new tyres after delivery, from a shop near the new flat, rather than paying for tyres that then get walked across two basements. If a tyre is actually damaged or will not hold air at all, though, it is worth fixing first, because it makes the bike easier and safer to move.

The same logic applies to other worn parts. A tired chain, a brake pad near its end, a battery that struggles in the morning. None of them affect the move, since the bike never runs. Plan the service for the new neighbourhood and do it once, rather than twice.

Finally, the first ride. After delivery, check the tyre pressure before riding off. A bike that has stood on a vehicle and then in a new basement may have lost a little air, and tubeless tyres hide it well. A quick check at the nearest air pump is all it takes.

Scooters

Scooter and Scooty Shifting in HSR Sector 7

Most newer scooters come on alloy wheels with tubeless tyres too, but the wheels are small and sit close to the body panels. On the vehicle the scooty's wheels sit square and the straps go through the frame, well clear of both the rims and the plastic.

If the scooter's tyres are worn, the same arithmetic applies: move it as it is and fit new ones near the new flat. If one is flat, tell us when you book.

Electric

EV Scooter Shifting in HSR Sector 7

Electric scooters often use alloy wheels with a hub motor built into the rear wheel. That wheel is heavier and costlier to damage, so the crew is careful with it on ramps and keeps straps well away. Say which EV it is, and describe the battery, when you book.

If the tyres on an EV are near the end, the new neighbourhood's tyre shop is the place to replace them, after delivery.

Intercity

Two Wheeler Transport from HSR Sector 7 to Other Cities

On a run out of Bangalore, the bike spends longer tied on the vehicle for a good while, and wheel protection matters more. The wheels sit square, straps stay on the frame, and the rims are kept off hard edges throughout.

Worn tyres can wait until arrival. The route is priced per kilometre and agreed in writing, and a pressure check at the far end should come before the first ride.

Before the Day

Getting Your Bike Ready in HSR Sector 7

Look at your rims before the move and photograph any kerb scrapes. Show them to the crew so they go on the condition note.

Check the tyres. If a tyre is completely flat, tell us when you book, since pushing a bike on a flat tubeless tyre can harm the bead.

If the tyres are worn but holding air, leave them. Fit new ones near the new flat after delivery, and do it once.

Push the other services back too. Chain, pads and battery do not matter while the bike is carried. Book the service in the new neighbourhood.

Before the first ride at the new address, check the tyre pressure. Tubeless tyres lose air quietly, and a standing bike may be softer than it looks.

Moving the whole household too? Our packers and movers in HSR Sector 7 page covers the house move, and a bike can travel on the same vehicle.

Checklist

Before Your Bike Is Collected in HSR Sector 7

  • Fuel

Ride the tank down to reserve in the days before collection. A small amount is fine; a full tank is not wanted on a loaded vehicle.

  • Papers

Photocopies of the RC, the insurance policy and your photo ID travel with the bike. Keep the originals, especially the RC, with you. If the RC is not in your name, mention it when you book.

  • Condition record

Photograph the bike from every side and at the odometer. The crew also notes its condition at pickup, and you keep a copy of that note.

  • Insurance

Transit insurance is available on a value you declare. Keep the bike's own motor insurance valid for the journey as well.

  • At delivery

Check the bike against the pickup note and your photographs before signing, and point out anything new while the crew is still there.

  • Handover

If someone else will hand over or receive the bike, tell us who when you book, and we will confirm what they need to have with them.

Good to Know

What a Bike Move Does Not Include

  • We do not ride your bike to the new address. It travels on a vehicle, standing upright and strapped at the frame.
  • Ride the tank down to reserve before pickup. A near empty tank is safer on a loaded vehicle.
  • We do not repair, service or start a bike that will not start. Tell us at booking so it is loaded the right way.
  • Helmets, jackets and tools travel in a carton or with you, never strapped to the bike.
  • RC transfer, address change and re-registration in a new state are yours to do, or an agent's.
FAQ

Bike Shifting in HSR Sector 7: Questions People Ask

For a local move, a scooter or commuter motorcycle is charged no less than Rs 2,500, and for most the bill ends below Rs 5,500. Alloy wheels do not change the price. You get the quote in writing before collection.

They can, which is why the crew keeps straps on the frame, sets the wheels square and keeps rims away from hard edges. The usual culprits are ramps, kerbs and badly placed straps.

No. Straps go through the frame. A strap round an alloy rim can mark the edge, and it does not hold the bike as well as a frame tie.

Photograph them and point them out at collection. They go on the condition note, and you get a copy, so old scrapes are not mistaken for new ones.

Usually not. The bike is carried, not ridden, so tread depth does not matter in transit. Most owners fit new tyres near the new flat after delivery.

Tell us at booking. Pushing a bike on a flat tubeless tyre can damage the edge that seals against the rim. It may be worth getting it inflated or fixed before collection.

No. The crew does not pump tyres or repair punctures. A tyre with a slow leak is fine for the move. A completely flat one is worth sorting beforehand.

Not much. Tubeless tyres lose air slowly, so the tyre keeps its shape while the bike is on the vehicle. Get the puncture fixed near the new flat before riding.

Only in how close the rims are to the panels. The scooty's wheels sit square and straps go through the frame, well clear of both the rims and the plastic.

Yes. The rear wheel is heavier and costlier to damage, so it is handled carefully on ramps and kept clear of straps. Name the EV model and its battery on the booking call.

The same way, for longer. The wheels sit square, straps stay on the frame and the rims stay off hard edges for the whole route. You get the kilometre rate on paper first.

There is no need for the move. Chain, pads and battery do not matter while the bike is carried. Service it once, in the new neighbourhood.

Tyre pressure, first of all. Tubeless tyres lose air quietly and a bike that has stood for a while may be softer than it looks. Then brakes and lights.

Yes. Both are short local moves at the city rate. Some owners ride over for a short move like this, which is their choice. If we move it, it goes on the vehicle.

Yes. It is tied upright in its own space on the household vehicle, with wheels set square and nothing stacked against the rims.

Only if it will not hold air or is visibly damaged enough to fail while being pushed. A cracked but inflated tyre can travel and be replaced after delivery.

Heavier or faired bikes may be seen first, so the right vehicle and crew come. The wheels themselves are handled the same way as on any bike.

They are handled with the same care. Spokes are less prone to edge scuffs but can be bent by a strap, so straps stay on the frame either way.

Yes. Storage in Bangalore is priced on the bike and how long it stays. Tyres can be changed once the bike is at your new address.

Yes. The crew notes tyre condition along with the body and rims. Worn tread or a sidewall crack goes on the note before loading.

Wherever the parked cars allow, which may be a little way from your gate. The crew walks the bike there, watching the rims on every kerb.

Cover goes by the value you declare for the whole bike at booking. Wear and tear on a tyre is not damage, which is why the note records tyre condition at collection.

That is a separate question, and only you can weigh it. For most owners, moving a working scooter is far cheaper than buying another. Worn tyres alone are not a reason to replace a bike.

The tyre sidewall usually says tubeless, and most modern alloy rims are built for them. If you are not sure, tell us the model when you book and we will check.
