Frequently Asked Questions
What Actually Happens to a Bike in Transit
Most people booking bike transport for the first time picture the bike being ridden to the new city. It isn't. It travels on a vehicle with other bikes, standing upright, strapped at the frame rather than the handlebars, with the fuel drained down and the battery sometimes disconnected. Understanding that changes what you should be asking about, because the risks on a bike move aren't mechanical, they're about handling and documentation.
On the vehicle a bike stands in a rack or on a deck, blanketed at the contact points and strapped down at the frame. That works for commuter bikes and scooters alike. A heavy motorcycle, anything with fairings, or a bike you'd be upset to see scratched gets more padding on the panels and more tie points, so tell us the make and model at booking and the loading is planned for it.
Fuel is the part people argue about. It gets drained to almost nothing before loading, and that isn't us being awkward, it's that a full tank on a vehicle carrying several bikes is a fire risk and most carriers won't accept one. Ride it down to reserve in the days before rather than filling up the morning of.
The Paperwork, and Why It Stops More Bikes Than Anything Else
A bike travelling between states needs papers travelling with it. In practice that means a copy of the registration certificate, a copy of the insurance, and a copy of your own photo identity. Where the bike is going to a different state you should also carry the original RC with you rather than in the load, because you'll need it at the far end and it should never be in a vehicle you aren't in.
The commonest hold up we see isn't a missing document, it's a name mismatch. The RC says one thing, the booking says another, because the bike was bought second hand and never transferred, or it's registered to a parent. Nobody minds, but it has to be explained rather than discovered, so tell us at booking if the bike isn't registered in your name.
Photograph the bike before it's loaded, from all four sides and close up on anything already scratched, dented or cracked. Our crew notes the condition at pickup and you get a copy. Between those two records, a mark that was already there stays a mark that was already there, and a mark that wasn't is straightforward to settle.
When It Is Cheaper to Send the Bike With the Household
If you're moving house and moving a bike in the same fortnight, say so on the first call. A bike travelling on the same vehicle as your household goods is the cheapest way to move it, because you're paying for space on a trip that's already happening rather than for a separate collection and a separate journey.
It doesn't always work. A small household on a small vehicle may genuinely have no room, and on a long interstate run the bike sometimes has to go on a dedicated carrier for handling reasons. But it's worth asking before you book two jobs, and a surprising number of people book them separately without ever raising it.
The other timing decision is whether the bike goes ahead of you or after. If you're flying to a new city and starting work immediately, sending it ahead means it's waiting. If your new address isn't confirmed, sending it after saves an expensive redelivery. Most people who get caught out did it the second way round.
What Bike Transportation Costs
| Job | Price | What decides it |
|---|---|---|
| Bike moved within a city | ₹2,500 – ₹5,500 | Short local runs sit at the bottom of the band. Collection access is what moves it. |
| Bike sent interstate on a carrier | ₹2,500 – ₹5,500 | Plus the distance band. Long runs are quoted on ₹15 to ₹28 per km by band. |
| Bike travelling with your household goods | ₹2,999 onwards | The cheapest option by a distance, because the trip is already happening. |
| Heavy motorcycle or a bike with fairings | After Survey | Extra padding on the panels and more tie points. Tell us the model at booking. |
| Bike collected from a tower basement | ₹2,500 – ₹5,500 | Walked out to a loading point, since carriers cannot work most basements. |
| Two bikes from one household | ₹2,500 – ₹5,500 | Priced per bike, though the second is easier because the vehicle is already there. |
Local moves start at ₹2,999. Interstate work is charged on distance bands of ₹15 to ₹28 per KM depending on the distance, quoted separately from the load so you can see both figures.
What Bike Transportation Does Not Include
Worth reading before you book. A mover who tells you this afterwards has cost you a day.
- We do not ride your bike over long distances. It travels on a vehicle, and any mover offering to ride it is putting kilometres on your odometer.
- We do not carry fuel. The tank is drained down before loading and that is not negotiable on a shared carrier.
- We do not service, repair or start a bike that will not start. Tell us at booking if it does not run, because it changes how it gets loaded.
- We do not transport a bike with belongings packed in or strapped to it. Helmets, jackets and tools travel in the household load or with you.
- We do not handle RC transfer, address change or state re-registration. That is your work or an agent's, and it is worth starting early.
More Questions About Bike Transportation
Will my bike be ridden to the new city?
No. It travels standing on a carrier, strapped at the frame. If anybody offers to ride it across for you, remember that every kilometre goes on your odometer and every risk on the road is yours. It is a shortcut for the mover rather than a service for you.
Do I need to empty the fuel tank?
Yes, down to almost nothing, and it is easier to ride it to reserve over the preceding few days than to have it drained on the morning. A full tank on a shared carrier is a fire risk and most carriers simply will not take one.
What documents travel with the bike?
Copies of the registration certificate, the insurance and your photo identity. Keep the originals with you, particularly the RC, because you will want it at the far end and it should never be in a vehicle you are not travelling in.
The bike is not registered in my name. Is that a problem?
Not a problem, but it has to be mentioned at booking rather than discovered at pickup. Second hand bikes that were never transferred, or bikes registered to a parent, come up constantly. It is the single most common reason a collection gets delayed.
What does bike transport cost?
Rs 2,500 to Rs 5,500 for the bike itself, with interstate runs adding the distance band at roughly Rs 15 to Rs 28 per kilometre. If it travels on the same vehicle as your household goods it starts from Rs 2999, which is much the cheapest way to do it.
Can I pack things inside the bike or in a box on it?
No, and please do not, even if it seems like free space. Anything strapped to a bike moves in transit and damages the bike it is strapped to, and it is not covered. Helmets, jackets and tools go in the household load or come with you.
Should I send the bike before or after I move?
Before, if your new address is confirmed and you want it waiting. After, if it is not, because a redelivery to a corrected address is expensive. Almost everybody who has trouble with this sent it ahead to an address that then changed.
