How to Choose Packers and Movers in Bangalore Without Getting Caught Out

We are a moving company writing about how to check moving companies, so read this with the appropriate scepticism. The reason we can afford to publish it is that everything below is checkable, and a mover who quotes properly has nothing to lose from customers asking better questions.
The pattern that catches most people in Bangalore is simple and consistent. A very low figure over the phone with no survey. Then on the day, the load is bigger than described, a second vehicle is suddenly needed, material is billed separately, and the final bill has grown by half. At that point your belongings are on a truck and your negotiating position is gone.
The four questions that expose a hook
Ask every mover these, and ask for the answers in writing:
- Is packing material included in this figure, or billed separately? This is where the largest quiet additions live.
- Does the figure cover loading and unloading, or only transport? Some quotes are transport only and the labour appears later.
- What size vehicle is coming, and what happens if a second one is needed? Get the size stated. An undersized vehicle means two trips and a second charge.
- Have you surveyed my household, and will this figure change? A price for a home nobody has seen is an estimate wearing a firm number's clothes.
A quote that will not answer those four is not a quote. Most of the unpleasant surprises in this city hide in exactly those gaps. Chandapura goes into this further, because that belt is where underquoting on the phone is most common.
Insist on a survey, and know what one is
A survey means somebody counts, either standing in your flat or on a slow video walk through where you open the cupboards and the loft. It is not a phone call asking how many bedrooms you have.
Room count is a poor predictor of volume. Almost every underestimated move we see is underestimated by exactly the contents of one loft and one storeroom, and a two bedroom flat belonging to a family of four who have lived there eight years can hold more than a three bedroom flat somebody moved into last year. If a mover is happy to quote firmly without looking, ask yourself what happens on the day when they are wrong.
Check the price against a published rate card
Ours are the same across the city and we publish them, which makes them checkable:
- Single room or a few items: from ₹2,999
- 1 BHK: ₹3,500 to ₹6,500
- 2 BHK: ₹6,000 to ₹10,500
- 3 BHK: ₹9,000 to ₹16,000
- Bike transport: ₹2,500 to ₹5,500
- Car transport: ₹6,000 to ₹12,000
- Office relocation: after survey, because it is priced on downtime rather than volume
A figure well below the bottom of a band is a warning rather than a bargain. Somebody is either planning to add to it later or planning to send two people to do a four person job, and the second one is how furniture gets damaged and backs get hurt.
The paperwork that tells you who you are dealing with
- A GST invoice in the correct name. If an employer is reimbursing, the billing name has to be right from the start. It is very awkward to correct afterwards and it is the commonest reason a claim gets stuck.
- A written inventory before anything leaves. Numbered, and you keep a copy. On a local move you can tell at a glance what arrived. Over a long run you cannot.
- Transit insurance terms, in the quote rather than mentioned verbally. Ask what it covers, what it asks for if you claim, and whether it covers cartons you packed yourself. It does not, and no mover honestly can, because nobody saw what went into them.
Four answers that should make you walk away
- "We will handle your split AC as part of the package." Taking one down properly needs the gas pumped into the outdoor unit and the line vacuumed on reinstall. That is a technician's job. A mover offering it is either subcontracting quietly or about to cost you a compressor. Immadihalli sets out where a mover's job stops on appliances.
- "No need for a survey, I know these flats." Nobody knows your loft.
- Cash only, no invoice. No paperwork means no recourse, and it usually means no insurance either.
- A guaranteed delivery hour on a long distance move. Loading takes what it takes and a truck shares the road with everybody. An honest answer is a window, not an appointment.
What actually drives your price, so you can control it
Rates are the same citywide. Where a job lands inside its band comes down to access and volume, and both are partly yours to influence:
- Throw things away before you pay to move them. On any budget this is the biggest lever you have, bigger than anything you will negotiate off a price. Volume is what you are buying.
- Pack your own soft goods, let them pack the breakables. Clothes, books and bedding in your cartons; glass, crockery, mirrors and screens in theirs. Real saving, and responsibility stays clear on the items that actually break.
- Move midweek, mid month. Month end weekends are the most contested slots in Bangalore because leases turn over together.
- Book the lift slot early. The constraint is rarely the mover's vehicle. It is your building's booking sheet, and those fill first.
The honest summary
The cheapest number you hear this week is very unlikely to be the number you pay. What you actually want is the mover whose figure will not move: surveyed properly, written down line by line, with the vehicle size stated and material included. That may not be us, and it should still be someone who answers all four questions above without hesitating.
If you want to see what area specific pricing looks like in practice, compare Balagere, where a booked service lift decides the entire day, with BEML Layout, where a ground floor compound makes the same load cheaper to work. Every area we cover is listed on packers and movers in Bangalore.
