Frequently Asked Questions
What Changes When You Cross a State Line
A domestic move within India is mostly the same job as a local one done at longer range, with one real difference: paperwork. Goods crossing a state boundary travel with documentation, and above certain values a commercial consignment needs the applicable e-way documentation. For an ordinary household this is largely invisible to you, which is how it should be, but it is being done and it is worth knowing that.
The reason it matters is that it's the sort of difference that stops a vehicle rather than merely annoying somebody. A quote that treats a Bangalore to Chennai household move as though it were a longer city hop has probably not thought about it, and the place you find out is a checkpost.
Ask any mover, us included, what documentation travels with the load and who prepares it. A straight answer is a good sign. A vague one is worth noticing.
Deciding What Actually Earns Its Place on the Truck
Distance changes the economics of moving things. A cheap wardrobe is worth moving across a city and frequently isn't worth moving across the country, because the space it occupies costs more than replacing it does. Old mattresses almost never earn their freight. Books are heavy and cheap to replace.
What is worth moving is what you'd be sad to lose or couldn't buy again: solid furniture, anything made well, anything with history in it. Being honest about that list at the survey saves more money than any negotiation over the rate, because volume is what you're paying for.
We'll tell you which pieces cost the most to move and are hardest to place at the far end. Then it's your call entirely. Bear in mind a mover advising you to move less is arguing against his own invoice, and weigh it accordingly.
One Crew or a Handover, and Why You Should Ask
On a long domestic move, the question that tells you most about a mover is whether the crew that packs your house is the crew that unloads it, or whether your goods change hands somewhere in the middle. Both models exist and both can work. What causes trouble is not being told.
Where a handover happens, the inventory becomes the only thing holding the job together, which is why every carton is numbered, the list travels with the load and a copy stays with you, and the vehicle is sealed after loading. Insist on that, here or anywhere.
Where we're using a local partner crew at the far end, we say so. Our survey, our written quote, our coordination, our accountability. A clearly explained model survives a phone call. A vague one doesn't, and you find out at the worst moment.
Timing, Storage and the Gap Nobody Plans For
Domestic moves produce gaps. A job starts before the new house is available, a registration slips, a school term dictates a date the property market doesn't care about. So plan the gap in from the start rather than discovering it.
For a gap beyond about three days storage is usually the right answer, and ours is in Bangalore, which matters if neither end of your move is. Say plainly what you need and we'll say plainly whether it makes sense, because holding a household four hundred kilometres from where it's eventually wanted rarely does.
And be realistic about the arrival window. Under 500 km is often two to three days, 500 to 1,500 km three to five, beyond that five to eight, counting loading. Somewhere to sleep that doesn't depend on the bed arriving is the single most useful thing you can arrange.
What Domestic Relocation Costs
| Job | Price | What decides it |
|---|---|---|
| 2 BHK load, quoted before the road leg | ₹6,000 – ₹10,500 | Stated separately from the distance so you can see both halves of the figure. |
| 3 BHK household, before the distance component | ₹9,000 – ₹16,000 | Long haul material is the honest difference from a local job, not a markup. |
| Up to 200 KM | ₹15 – ₹20 per KM | Short interstate hop. A household of this range often moves in one day. |
| 200 to 500 KM | ₹18 – ₹24 per KM | Allow two to three days once loading and unloading are both counted. |
| 500 KM and beyond | ₹20 – ₹28 per KM | Five to eight days. This is the band where cover stops being optional. |
| Part load on a route already running | ₹2,999 onwards | Cheapest option for a modest household. Wider delivery window is the trade. |
Local moves start at ₹2,999. Interstate work is charged on distance bands of ₹15 to ₹28 per KM depending on the distance, quoted separately from the load so you can see both figures.
What Domestic Relocation Does Not Include
Worth reading before you book. A mover who tells you this afterwards has cost you a day.
- We do not act as your customs broker or tax adviser. We prepare the documentation that travels with the load and no more.
- We do not promise a delivery hour across states. You get a window, and an explanation of what sets it.
- We do not hold goods outside Bangalore. Our storage is there, and we will say so rather than take a booking that does not serve you.
- We do not cover self packed cartons, and over this distance that matters more than it does locally.
- We do not carry hazardous goods, fuel, gas cylinders, paint or anything flammable, on any distance.
More Questions About Domestic Relocation
Does a move between states need special paperwork?
Yes, documentation travels with the load, and a commercial consignment above the applicable threshold needs e-way documentation. On an ordinary household job it is invisible to you, which is how it should be. Ask any mover what travels with the load and who prepares it; a straight answer tells you a lot.
Is it worth moving cheap furniture across the country?
Often not. Space costs money on a long run, and a cheap wardrobe or an old mattress frequently costs more to move than to replace. What earns its freight is what you would be sad to lose or could not buy again. We will tell you which pieces are which and leave the decision to you.
Will the same crew pack and unload?
Ask that of every mover, because both models exist and the problem is not being told. Where we use a vetted local crew at the far end we say so, and the survey, the written quote, the coordination and the accountability stay with us. Where goods change hands, the numbered inventory is what holds the job together.
How is a domestic move priced?
The household at its local band, so Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,500 for a 2 BHK, plus the distance at Rs 15 to Rs 20 per km up to 200 km, Rs 18 to Rs 24 up to 500 km, and Rs 20 to Rs 28 beyond. Ask for the two figures separately.
Can you store our things between the two houses?
In Bangalore, yes. Elsewhere, no, and we would rather tell you that than take the booking. If neither end of your move is Bangalore, holding your household there usually costs more in the second leg than the storage saves.
How long will delivery take?
Roughly two to three days under 500 km, three to five up to 1,500 km, and five to eight beyond, counting loading. It is a window rather than an appointment, so arrange somewhere to sleep that does not depend on the bed arriving.
How far ahead should we book?
Three weeks. Material has to be prepared for the distance, a vehicle scheduled for a multi day run, and you need time to decide what travels with you rather than on the truck. That last one is what people leave too late.
