Frequently Asked Questions

This Is Not a Household Move, and It Is Priced Differently

Household moving is priced on volume and rooms. Freight and logistics are priced on weight, shape, distance and how much of a vehicle you need, and a business booking a consignment on household assumptions gets a number that doesn't mean anything. So the first thing we establish is what the goods actually are.

The useful questions are: total weight, the dimensions of the largest single item, whether it palletises, whether it stacks, and whether anything needs to stay upright or dry. Answer those five and a quote is straightforward. Skip them and it isn't a quote, it's a guess.

Nothing here is priced over the phone. Not because we're being difficult, but because a consignment nobody has seen or weighed is a consignment nobody can price, and the guess gets corrected when the vehicle turns out to be wrong.

Full Load, Part Load, and Which One You Actually Need

A full truck load means you have the vehicle. It leaves when you say, it arrives when it's due, and you pay for the space whether you fill it or not. For anything time critical or anything you'd rather nobody else's freight sat next to, that's the answer.

A part load shares a vehicle with other consignments going the same way. You pay for the space you occupy, which is dramatically cheaper, and the trade off is a delivery window of hours or occasionally a day rather than an appointment, because the vehicle is working to more than one destination.

Most businesses booking their first consignment overestimate how much they need a dedicated vehicle. Most businesses that have been caught out once overestimate how much a part load will delay them. The honest answer sits between and depends entirely on whether your delivery date has money attached to it.

Packaging Is Yours, and It Decides Whether Things Arrive Intact

On a household move we pack. On a freight consignment you usually pack, or your supplier does, and we carry. That's the normal arrangement and it puts the responsibility for how goods are protected with whoever prepared them, which is worth understanding before rather than after.

Palletised and shrink wrapped travels far better than loose cartons. Anything fragile wants marking on all four sides rather than the top, because a box gets handled by whichever face is toward the person lifting it. Anything that must stay upright needs saying so in writing, not just an arrow printed on the carton.

We'll tell you if packaging looks inadequate for the distance before we load it, and we'd rather have that conversation at the dock than a claim conversation afterwards. What we can't do is take responsibility for the inside of a sealed carton we didn't pack.

Documentation, Which Is Where Freight Actually Goes Wrong

A commercial consignment crossing a state line needs the applicable e-way documentation above the threshold, and it needs to exist before the vehicle moves rather than after it's stopped. This is the single most common reason freight sits at a checkpost, and it is entirely preventable.

Invoices, delivery challans and the e-way documentation should match each other exactly: same values, same descriptions, same consignee. A mismatch between an invoice and a challan is the kind of small discrepancy that costs half a day.

Tell us the billing entity and GST details at booking. For a business consignment the invoice has to be right from the start, and reissuing it to a different entity afterwards is considerably harder than getting it right first time.

What Logistic Services Does Not Include

Worth reading before you book. A mover who tells you this afterwards has cost you a day.

  • We do not pack commercial freight unless it is agreed and quoted separately. Normally you or your supplier pack and we carry.
  • We do not take responsibility for the contents of sealed cartons we did not pack. We will flag inadequate packaging before loading, not after.
  • We do not prepare your invoices or challans. We carry the documentation; producing and reconciling it is yours.
  • We do not carry hazardous, perishable or temperature controlled goods. No fuel, chemicals, food requiring refrigeration or anything flammable.
  • We do not quote freight over the phone. Weight, dimensions and stackability decide the price, and none of those can be guessed.

More Questions About Logistic Services

Why will you not quote freight over the phone?

Because weight, the dimensions of the largest item, whether it palletises and whether it stacks are what decide the price, and none of those can be guessed. A consignment nobody has seen is a consignment nobody can price, and a phone figure gets corrected when the vehicle turns out to be wrong.

Do I need a full truck or a part load?

A full load if your delivery date has money attached to it, or if you would rather nobody else's freight sat next to yours. A part load if it does not, because you pay only for the space you use and the trade off is a delivery window rather than an appointment.

Do you pack commercial goods?

Normally you or your supplier pack and we carry. We can pack if it is agreed and quoted separately. What we cannot do is take responsibility for the inside of a sealed carton we did not pack, though we will tell you at the dock if packaging looks inadequate for the distance.

What documentation does a consignment need?

Above the applicable threshold, e-way documentation, and it needs to exist before the vehicle moves rather than after it is stopped. Invoices, challans and the e-way details must match each other exactly. A mismatch between an invoice and a challan is the classic half day delay.

How is the distance charged?

Roughly Rs 15 to Rs 20 per km up to 200 km, Rs 18 to Rs 24 for 200 to 500 km, and Rs 20 to Rs 28 beyond, alongside the vehicle and weight component. Ask for those separately so you can see what you are paying for.

Can you handle temperature controlled or hazardous freight?

No. No fuel, chemicals, anything flammable, or food requiring refrigeration. That needs specialist equipment and specialist licensing, and a general carrier taking it on is doing something they should not.

We are moving an office, not sending freight. Is this the right service?

Probably not. An office move is priced on downtime and desk count rather than on weight, and it is a different job with different sequencing. Ask about office relocation instead and you will get a more useful quote.
