Frequently Asked Questions

Driven or Carried, and Why It Matters More Than the Price

There are two ways to move a car and they are not variations on the same service. On a carrier, the car is loaded onto a truck and travels without its wheels turning. Driven, somebody sits in your car and drives it to the destination. The second is cheaper and it puts several hundred kilometres on your odometer, wears your tyres and clutch, and exposes your car to every risk on the highway with a stranger at the wheel.

We move cars on carriers. It is worth saying plainly because driven transport is offered widely and quoted low, and people accept it without registering that they have agreed to have their car driven across India by somebody they will never meet. For a new car, a leased car, or any car under warranty, driven transport is usually a bad idea for reasons that have nothing to do with the mover's competence.

Open or enclosed is the other choice, and here the honest answer is that most cars are fine on an open carrier. Enclosed protects against weather and road debris and costs more. It earns its money on something expensive, freshly painted or genuinely rare. For an ordinary hatchback going between two Indian cities, open is the sensible call and we will say so rather than upselling you.

Getting the Car Out of the Building

The part of a car move that goes wrong is almost never the journey. It is the first fifty metres. A car carrier is long, it is tall, and it cannot get into a residential basement, down a narrow lane, or round a tight podium ramp, which is exactly where a great many cars in Bangalore and Hyderabad live.

So the car is driven out to a loading point where the carrier can legally and safely stand, and that means the car has to be drivable and the keys have to be available. It sounds obvious. We have arrived to find the car boxed in by two others whose owners were at work, and to find the only person with keys had already flown out the day before.

Clear the parking bay in advance and raise the gate pass with your society, because security deals with residents rather than with contractors. Where the car sits in stack or puzzle parking, allow real time for retrieval, because that is the slow part and it is entirely outside our control.

Condition, Fuel and the Things People Leave in the Car

Before loading, the car is inspected and the condition recorded, and you get a copy. Do your own version too: photograph all four sides, the roof, the alloys and any existing scratch or stone chip, with the date visible. Almost every dispute about a car move is a disagreement about whether a mark was already there, and two independent records settle it in a minute.

Fuel goes down to roughly a quarter tank. Enough to drive on and off the carrier and to a filling station at the far end, not enough to add meaningful weight or risk. Toll tags are worth removing or deactivating, since a tag on a car travelling on a truck can still get read.

Empty the car completely. Personal belongings in a transported car are not covered, and it is not a loophole, it is that nobody can verify what was in a sealed car when it was loaded. That includes the boot. People leave a laptop bag or a set of golf clubs in there routinely and then discover the position afterwards.

What Car Transportation Costs

JobPriceWhat decides it
Car moved within a city₹6,000 – ₹12,000Retrieval from the building is usually slower than the drive itself.
Car on an open carrier, interstate₹6,000 – ₹12,000Plus the distance band at ₹15 to ₹28 per km. Right choice for most cars.
Car in an enclosed carrierAfter SurveyCosts more and earns it on something expensive, freshly painted or rare.
Car released from stack or puzzle parking₹6,000 – ₹12,000Same band. Allow real time for retrieval, which is outside our control.
Car sent with a household move₹6,000 – ₹12,000Often sent a day ahead so the family is not without transport on moving day.
Second car from the same address₹6,000 – ₹12,000Priced per car, though the second is simpler with the carrier already there.

Local moves start at ₹2,999. Interstate work is charged on distance bands of ₹15 to ₹28 per KM depending on the distance, quoted separately from the load so you can see both figures.

What Car Transportation Does Not Include

Worth reading before you book. A mover who tells you this afterwards has cost you a day.

  • We do not offer driven transport. Your car travels on a carrier rather than accumulating kilometres and highway risk with a stranger driving it.
  • We do not cover personal belongings left in the car. Empty it completely, boot included, because nobody can verify the contents of a sealed car.
  • We do not carry a car that will not start or steer. Tell us in advance, because a non-runner needs different equipment and a different quote.
  • We do not handle RC transfer, road tax or state re-registration at the destination. That is your work or an agent's.
  • We do not enter residential basements or podium parking with a carrier. The car is driven out to a loading point, so keys and a clear bay are needed.

More Questions About Car Transportation

Will somebody drive my car to the new city?

Not with us. It goes on a carrier. Driven transport is quoted low across the industry and what you are actually agreeing to is several hundred kilometres on your odometer, wear on your clutch and tyres, and a stranger at the wheel on a highway. For a leased or in warranty car it is a particularly poor trade.

Do I need an enclosed carrier?

Probably not. For an ordinary car going between two Indian cities an open carrier is the sensible choice and we will tell you so rather than selling you the upgrade. Enclosed earns its money on something expensive, freshly painted or genuinely rare.

Can the carrier come to my basement?

No, and no carrier can. They are long and tall and residential basements, podium ramps and narrow lanes defeat them. The car gets driven out to a loading point where the carrier can legally stand, which means it has to be drivable and somebody has to have the keys.

How much fuel should be in the car?

About a quarter tank. Enough to drive on and off the carrier and reach a filling station at the other end, and not enough to add weight or risk. Worth deactivating or removing the toll tag too, since a tag can still be read while the car is on a truck.

Can I leave things in the car?

No, and empty the boot as well. Belongings in a transported car are not covered, and that is not a technicality to dodge a claim, it is that nobody can verify what was inside a sealed car at loading. Laptop bags and sports kit in the boot are the usual casualties.

What does car transport cost?

Rs 6,000 to Rs 12,000 for the car, with interstate runs adding the distance band at roughly Rs 15 to Rs 28 per kilometre. Enclosed carriage is quoted after survey. Ask for the distance component stated separately so you can see what you are paying for.

How do we avoid an argument about scratches?

Two independent records. We inspect and note the condition at loading and give you a copy, and you photograph all four sides, the roof, the alloys and every existing chip with the date visible. Nearly every car dispute is about whether a mark predated the move, and that settles it in a minute.
