Frequently Asked Questions
Packing for Distance Is a Different Job
A carton on a local move is handled twice and spends twenty minutes in a vehicle. The same carton going eight hundred kilometres sits for a day or two on a road that isn't smooth, with weight above it, being shaken continuously the whole way. Pack it to local standards and it arrives looking like it travelled that far.
So the material and the method change. Boxes get filled to the top and the voids packed out so nothing settles under the weight above. Fragile items are double wrapped rather than single. Screens travel in their own crating, upright, never flat and never with anything stacked on them. Furniture gets corner protection, because a corner is what takes the knock.
The load is built rather than stacked: heavy at the bottom and to the front, strapped in layers as the vehicle fills. That's slower to load and it's the reason a properly packed long distance vehicle arrives with everything still where it was put. A vehicle loaded heavy at the back also handles badly for hundreds of kilometres, which is a safety matter rather than a tidiness one.
How Intercity Is Priced, and What to Ask For
Two components. The household itself at its local band, and the distance at a per kilometre rate: roughly Rs 15 to Rs 20 per km up to 200 km, Rs 18 to Rs 24 for 200 to 500 km, and Rs 20 to Rs 28 beyond that. Ask for both figures separately so you can see what you're paying for.
A mover who gives you one lump sum for a route isn't necessarily overcharging, but you can't check it, and a route price list is exactly where invented numbers live. If a quote won't break out the distance component, ask why.
The other thing worth asking is whether the vehicle is dedicated or shared. A dedicated vehicle costs more and arrives when it's due. A part load shares a vehicle already making the trip, costs a fraction, and gives you a wider delivery window because the vehicle is working to more than one destination.
Delivery Comes as a Window, Not an Appointment
Anybody promising you a delivery hour on a long run is guessing. Loading takes the hours it takes, a driver has legal and sensible limits on how far they go in a day, and a truck shares the road with everybody else on it. Add those up and a household arrives inside a range rather than at three o'clock on Thursday.
Plan for that instead of hoping. Keep a bag of essentials with you, arrange somewhere to sleep that doesn't depend on the bed arriving, and treat the date as approximate until the vehicle is genuinely close. As a rough guide, under 500 km is often two to three days, 500 to 1,500 km three to five, and beyond that five to eight.
Documents, jewellery, medicines, hard drives and anything irreplaceable travel with you. Every mover says this and it remains the most common regret we hear, because no amount of insurance makes a lost photograph album whole again.
The Inventory, and Why It Matters More Here
Every carton numbered, a list you hold and a list that travels, and the vehicle sealed after loading. On a local move you can tell at a glance whether everything arrived. Over a two day journey with a possible driver change you can't, and a signed inventory is the only thing that turns a vague suspicion at the far end into something anybody can actually resolve.
Photograph your copy on your phone as well. It costs nothing and the paper version has a habit of ending up in the load it was meant to describe.
This is also the run where insurance genuinely earns its money. On a short local hop with careful packing the risk is small enough that declining it is defensible. Over several hundred kilometres it isn't, and the cover costs a small fraction of replacing a household.
What Intercity Shifting Costs
| Job | Price | What decides it |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 200 KM | ₹15 – ₹20 per KM | Plus the household at its local band. Ask for both figures separately. |
| 200 to 500 KM | ₹18 – ₹24 per KM | Often a two to three day delivery window once loading is counted. |
| 500 KM and beyond | ₹20 – ₹28 per KM | Five to eight days on the longest runs. Insurance is worth taking here. |
| 2 BHK household, before the distance component | ₹6,000 – ₹10,500 | The load itself. Long haul material is the honest difference, not a markup. |
| Part load sharing a vehicle already making the trip | ₹2,999 onwards | The cheapest way to send a small household far. Wider delivery window. |
| Car or bike travelling on the same route | ₹6,000 – ₹12,000 | Car band. Bikes are Rs 2,500 to Rs 5,500, plus the distance either way. |
Local moves start at ₹2,999. Interstate work is charged on distance bands of ₹15 to ₹28 per KM depending on the distance, quoted separately from the load so you can see both figures.
What Intercity Shifting Does Not Include
Worth reading before you book. A mover who tells you this afterwards has cost you a day.
- We do not promise a delivery hour on a long run. You get a window and an explanation of what sets it, because anything more precise is a guess.
- We do not carry documents, jewellery, cash or anything irreplaceable. Those travel with you, and no insurance replaces a photograph album.
- We do not cover self packed cartons on a long run, and this is where it matters most. Distance is unforgiving of a carton that was not packed for it.
- We do not quote a route price without breaking out the distance component. If a mover will not show you both figures, ask why.
- We do not carry hazardous goods. No fuel, gas cylinders, paint or anything flammable, on any distance.
More Questions About Intercity Shifting
Is packing really different for a long move?
Substantially, and it is not an upsell. Cartons filled to the top with voids packed out so nothing settles, fragiles double wrapped, screens crated upright, and the load built and strapped in layers. A load packed to local standards and driven eight hundred kilometres arrives looking like it was driven eight hundred kilometres.
How is intercity shifting priced?
In two parts. The household at its local band, and the distance at roughly Rs 15 to Rs 20 per km up to 200 km, Rs 18 to Rs 24 for 200 to 500 km, and Rs 20 to Rs 28 beyond. Ask for both separately, because a single route price is not something you can check.
When exactly will my things arrive?
In a window rather than at an hour. Roughly two to three days under 500 km, three to five up to 1,500 km, and five to eight beyond that, counting loading. Plan a bag of essentials and somewhere to sleep that does not depend on the bed, and treat the date as approximate until the vehicle is close.
Can I send a small load without paying for a whole vehicle?
Yes, a part load shares a vehicle already making the trip and starts from Rs 2999 depending on the space you take. The trade off is a wider delivery window, since the vehicle is working to more than one destination. For a modest household going far it is very good value.
How do I know everything arrived?
A numbered inventory, one copy with you and one travelling with the load, and the vehicle sealed after loading. Photograph your copy. Over a two day run with a possible driver change you cannot tell at a glance, and the list is what makes the far end checkable.
Should I take insurance for an intercity move?
On this distance, yes, and it is the one place we push it rather than leaving it as an option. Cover costs a small fraction of replacing a fridge and a television, and the risk over several hundred kilometres is genuinely different from a twenty minute local hop.
How much notice do you need?
Three weeks. The packing is the short part. What takes time is preparing the right material, scheduling a vehicle for a multi day run, and giving you time to sort out what travels with you rather than on the truck.
