Bike Shifting in Dollars Colony

Houses in Dollars Colony are often properly wired: cameras at the gate and over the car porch, sensors, a network cabinet, recorders that keep a week or a month of footage. On an ordinary day, the cameras are for security. On moving day, they can be a quiet record of the bike's handover, which is useful to you and to us.

Disputes over bike damage usually come down to one question: was that mark there before? Photos help, and we take them at pickup. But footage from a fixed camera shows the whole sequence: the bike in its spot, the crew walking round it, the padding going on, the bike wheeled up the ramp and strapped down. If a question comes up later, there is no guesswork.

So, before moving day, check the cameras.

Make sure the camera covering the parking is working and recording, and that its view includes the bike's spot and, ideally, the gate where the truck will stand. Clean the lens if it's dusty; outdoor cameras collect grime and spider webs, and a smeared lens records very little detail.

Check how long the recorder keeps footage. Many home systems overwrite after a week or two. If the move is close to a deadline, the footage may be gone before anyone thinks to look.

On the day, note the time the crew arrive and the time the truck leaves. Afterwards, export the clip covering the bike's handover and save it somewhere that won't be wiped, such as a phone or cloud storage. A few minutes of footage is a small file.

Let the crew know they're on camera. It's courteous, and it also helps: a crew that knows the handover is recorded will happily do the walk round in view of the lens and point out any marks they see.

Don't take the recorder down too early. If the security system is being removed and moved, as it often is in these homes, the recorder is usually one of the last things disconnected. Make sure the bike leaves before the cameras do, or the footage is exported first.

At the new house, the same idea works in reverse. If the new place has cameras already working, record the bike's arrival. If not, photos of the unloading on your phone serve the purpose.

Think about the angle as well. A camera mounted high on a gate post often sees the top of the bike and the backs of the crew, not the panels and the tank where scratches show. If you can, adjust it for the day, or add a phone on a stand at bike height pointing at the spot where the walk round happens. A short video on your own phone of the walk round, with the crew's agreement, is just as good.

There is a privacy courtesy too. If your cameras cover the crew, that's normal and expected, but keep the footage for its purpose and don't share it publicly.

The footage doesn't replace the walk round. Someone you trust should still circle the bike alongside the crew, list existing marks on the receipt and put a signature to it. The recording simply backs that up.
