Bike Shifting in Yeshwanthpur

With a major railway junction on the doorstep, a lot of moves into Yeshwanthpur end with someone stepping off a train. The household goods have gone ahead by road, the family travels by rail, and the bike is somewhere in between, on a carrier making its way down the highway. The delivery needs a person at the gate to receive it, and that person is still sitting in a coach.

That sounds simple until the train is three hours late, or the carrier reaches the city faster than expected, or nobody is sure whether the bike should go to the new address or wait.

So plan the handover around the train, not around the truck.

Start with the arrival time. Give us the train number and the scheduled arrival at the junction when you book. Add the time it takes to get from the station to the new address, plus a margin for collecting luggage and finding an auto. That is the earliest the bike should be delivered.

Then decide who receives the bike if you are late. A neighbour, a friend, the building's watchman or a relative already in the city can sign for it, provided they have a copy of your ID or a note from you and know which parking spot it goes to. Tell us their name and number in advance, so the driver isn't calling someone who doesn't know they are expected.

If nobody can receive it, the bike can wait. Rather than leaving it at an unattended gate, we can hold it for a few hours or overnight and deliver when you are there. Ask about this when booking, so the option is agreed rather than improvised.

Keep the papers with you, not in the household boxes. The RC, insurance and key need to be with whoever receives the bike, and if that is you, they need to be in your hand luggage. A key packed in a carton on the furniture truck is no use at the gate.

Check the bike when it arrives, even if you are tired from the journey. Walk round it with the driver, look at the panels and mirrors, and only then sign. If you arrive at night, do it under a light or with a phone torch. A dent noticed the next morning is much harder to sort out.

The reverse works too. If you are leaving Yeshwanthpur by train, hand the bike over a day or two before you travel, not on the morning of departure. Trains don't wait, and a pickup that runs late can leave you choosing between the bike and the train.

Think about the hour, too. Many long distance trains reach the junction early in the morning or late at night. A building that doesn't allow vehicles in after ten, or a watchman who isn't on duty at six, changes the plan. Ask the new building about its hours before you fix the delivery slot, and if your train lands at an awkward time, let the bike come later in the day once you've had a chance to rest.
