Bike Shifting in Nagarbhavi BDA Layout

The BDA allotments in Nagarbhavi are full of houses that were finished over years. A family built the ground floor first, moved in, and added a first and second floor as money allowed. The upper floors usually got their own outside staircase, often a concrete flight up the side of the house, so they could be let separately.

The triangle of space under that staircase is too useful to waste. It is covered, out of sight, and close to the door. So the bike lives there. Over the years it gets pushed in nose first, then reversed out, by a rider who knows exactly how to tilt it past the first step and duck under the slope of the stairs.

A moving crew doesn't know any of that. The space is low at the back, so mirrors and handlebars catch on the underside of the stairs. The first step sits right where the front wheel wants to turn. A water pipe or a meter box is often fixed to the wall beside it. And a heavy motorcycle reversed out of a tapering space has to come straight back, because there is no room to swing it.

So tell us at booking that the bike is under a staircase, and send a photo or short video of it from the front. We look at the headroom at the handlebars and mirrors, how far in the bike sits, and what is beside it.

On the day, mirrors often come off first. The bike is rolled straight back by two people, one guiding the bars and watching the top, one at the rear pulling gently. If the step is in the way, the front wheel is lifted over its corner rather than scraped along it. Once it is clear of the stairs, it is turned in open space and pushed to the carrier. On the way, the crew keeps an eye on the setback strip itself, which in these houses is often narrow, with a drain along the wall and a gate at the end that opens only halfway because of the staircase's first landing.

Tenants upstairs often share the space without thinking. Their cycle, a gas cylinder, a box of empty bottles slowly creep in beside your bike. Two days ahead of moving day, ask the upstairs household to clear their things from under the stairs, so our crew isn't moving other people's belongings to reach yours.

At the new house, look at where the bike will live. Stage built houses are common across this side of the city, so the chance of another staircase at the far end is real. If it is another under stair space, measure the height at the handlebars before delivery day.
