Bike Shifting in Kambipura

Kambipura families know the free carton trick: the shop at the corner has a pile of empty boxes at the back, and they look strong enough. For books and clothes they mostly survive the first lift. By the second, out of the lorry at the new house, the bottoms give way. Used cartons have already been loaded, stacked and sometimes left in the rain. Their strength has gone.

The bike's kit is a bad thing to put in one. Helmets are bulky and their visors scratch. A bike cover is soft but heavy when folded. A chain lock or disc lock is dense and has hard corners. A charger has a cable and a brick that knocks against everything. A tool roll is small and heavy. Thrown together in a tired carton, they go through the bottom, and the helmet rolls across the lorry floor.

So give the kit a proper box. A new double wall carton, or a strong plastic tub with a lid, sized so the helmets fit without squashing. Put the helmets in first, visors down and padded with the folded cover. Lay the lock and tools flat in the bottom corners, wrapped in a cloth so they don't knock. Coil the charger cable and tie it. Put gloves and rain gear on top.

Label it clearly with the bike's registration number and the word "bike". Write it on two sides, so it can be read whichever way the box is stacked. Then it can ride beside the bike, or in the household load, and anybody unloading knows where it belongs.

Riding gear deserves its own care. A jacket with armour, folded flat on top of the helmets, adds padding. Gloves stuffed inside a helmet keep them together. Rain gear, if it is still damp from the last ride, should be dried first, or it will smell and mould inside a closed box for days. And if there is a spare tube, a tyre inflator or a can of chain lube, chain lube and anything else in an aerosol stays out of the box, because sprays can't travel.

Don't strap any of it to the bike. Helmets on mirrors, bags on hooks and locks on the frame aren't covered in transit and scratch the bike. The box rides separately.

The originals of the RC and insurance don't go in this box either. They travel with you, in the folder with your ID and the new lease.

When the box arrives, open it first, before the household cartons. The charger and the lock are what you need on the first evening, and a helmet is needed the first morning.

With an electric scooter, nothing in the kit box matters more than the charger. Without it, the scooter is useless at the new house. Pack it in the kit box, coiled and tied, and let us know the maker and battery arrangement at booking.
