Bike Shifting in Kodungallur

Kodungallur is an old coastal settlement with deep family roots, and a familiar pattern runs through it. It confirms there are no dues, no legal cases and no objection to the bike moving to Kerala. Where a loan is still open, expect to need the lender's consent as well, and the hypothecation may need to be removed or recorded.

Second, road tax in Kerala. A bike moving permanently to a new state usually has to pay road tax there, often calculated on its age and value, and there may be a process to claim a refund of unused tax in the old state.

Think about the timing. Re-registration doesn't have to happen on the day you arrive, but it shouldn't be left for years either. Ask the RTO how long a bike from another state can be used in Kerala on its old plates in your situation, and plan the process within that.

Third, the new registration. With the NOC, proof of address in Kerala, insurance, a pollution certificate and the bike itself for inspection, the Kerala RTO issues a new registration and new plates.

Bikes registered more recently may carry a Bharat series registration, which is meant for people who move between states and has different rules. If yours has one, check what applies.

Meanwhile, keep the bike's papers in order. Until the new registration comes through, the old one is what any check will look at. Make sure the insurance is valid and covers riding in Kerala, and that the policy reflects your new address once you've moved.

Keep every receipt. The NOC application, the tax paid in Kerala, any refund claim in the old state, the inspection slip and the new RC all belong in one folder. If anything is questioned later, by an insurer, a buyer or the police, the paper trail answers it.

And plan the bike's arrival. The carrier bringing it home from another state should deliver to the family house when someone is there to receive it, and the house should have somewhere dry for it to stand, since a house shut for years may have a damp porch or a shed that needs clearing first.
