Bike, Scooter and Two Wheeler Shifting · Mudalapalya, Bangalore

Bike Shifting in Mudalapalya

Older Mudalapalya houses sometimes have a half sunken store under the front room, and a few owners keep a scooter or a vintage bike down there, out of the rain and away from thieves. It went down the steps once, with effort. Getting it back up means carrying it, with enough hands and a plan for every step.

Bike Shifting

Bike Shifting in Mudalapalya, Bangalore

Mudalapalya has plenty of older independent houses, and some of them have a cellar or a half sunken store: under the front room, under the stairs, or below the level of the compound. They are damp, cool and secure. A few owners use them for a bike: a classic motorcycle kept safe, a scooter stored for a family member abroad, a bike laid up for the monsoon.

The way in is usually a short flight of steps, sometimes narrow, sometimes with a turn at the bottom. The bike went down years ago, perhaps with three people and a lot of shouting. Nobody remembers exactly how. On moving day, it has to come up, and there is no ramp.

Carrying a bike up steps is real work and needs a plan. A scooter, at around 100 kilos, is a three person carry: one at the front holding the handlebars and front wheel, two at the rear under the frame and the grab rail. A motorcycle, at 150 to 200 kilos, needs four. Every step is taken together, on a count, with the bike kept upright so oil and fuel stay where they belong.

Before that, the store needs checking. Is the bike blocked in by trunks or boxes? Is the floor damp and slippery? Is there light? Are the steps sound, or is one cracked? Is the doorway at the top wide enough for the handlebars, or do the mirrors need to come off? Film the walk from the parked bike to the top step and send us the clip; it answers all of those.

Fuel and oil need a thought on steps. A bike tilted on its way up, even a little, can let fuel weep from the tank cap or the carburettor overflow. Ride or run the tank down to reserve before the move if the bike runs at all, and check the oil level isn't overfilled. Keep the bike as upright as the steps allow throughout the carry.

Sometimes a board laid over the steps makes a usable ramp. If the steps are shallow and wide enough, and a strong plank is available, the crew can push the bike up rather than carry it. We decide that on the day from what we see.

A bike that has been stored in a damp cellar may need its tyres pumped, its battery charged and its chain lubricated before it rolls well. Do what you can a few days before.

The Mudalapalya packers page explains the cellar store for household goods. This page is about the bike at the bottom of the steps.

Scooters

Scooter and Scooty Shifting in Mudalapalya

Scooter and scooty shifting from a Mudalapalya cellar is a three person carry up the steps. Empty the boot first so the scooter is as light as it can be, take off a top box if there is one, and pump the tyres so it rolls once it reaches the top.

Electric

EV Scooter Shifting in Mudalapalya

Battery weight makes a cellar kept electric scooter the heavier carry. If the battery is removable, take it out and carry it up separately; it makes the carry much safer. Name the brand and battery arrangement at booking.

Intercity

Two Wheeler Transport from Mudalapalya to Other Cities

A bike stored in a cellar is sometimes sent to another city to a relative who will ride it. Once it is up the steps and strapped down, bike transport to that relative costs a kilometre rate for the road. Two wheeler transport of a long stored bike is a good time to have it serviced at the far end before riding.

Before the Day

Getting Your Bike Ready in Mudalapalya

Film the route from the bike up to the top of the cellar steps and send the clip when booking.

Clear any trunks or boxes around the bike, and make sure there is light in the store. A single bulb on a long lead is enough; nobody should carry a bike up steps in the dark.

Pump the tyres and, if you can, charge the battery a few days before, so the bike rolls freely the moment it reaches level ground.

Empty the scooter boot and remove any top box to save weight.

If there is a strong plank on site, tell us; it may make a usable ramp.

Moving the whole household too? Our packers and movers in Mudalapalya page covers the house move, and a bike can travel on the same vehicle.

Checklist

Before Your Bike Is Collected in Mudalapalya

  • Fuel

Ride the tank down to reserve in the days before collection. A small amount is fine; a full tank is not wanted on a loaded vehicle.

  • Papers

Photocopies of the RC, the insurance policy and your photo ID travel with the bike. Keep the originals, especially the RC, with you. If the RC is not in your name, mention it when you book.

  • Condition record

Photograph the bike from every side and at the odometer. The crew also notes its condition at pickup, and you keep a copy of that note.

  • Insurance

Transit insurance is available on a value you declare. Keep the bike's own motor insurance valid for the journey as well.

  • At delivery

Check the bike against the pickup note and your photographs before signing, and point out anything new while the crew is still there.

  • Handover

If someone else will hand over or receive the bike, tell us who when you book, and we will confirm what they need to have with them.

Good to Know

What a Bike Move Does Not Include

  • We do not ride your bike to the new address. It travels on a vehicle, standing upright and strapped at the frame.
  • Ride the tank down to reserve before pickup. A near empty tank is safer on a loaded vehicle.
  • We do not repair, service or start a bike that will not start. Tell us at booking so it is loaded the right way.
  • Helmets, jackets and tools travel in a carton or with you, never strapped to the bike.
  • RC transfer, address change and re-registration in a new state are yours to do, or an agent's.
