Bike, Scooter and Two Wheeler Shifting · Kumara Park West, Bangalore

Bike Shifting in Kumara Park West

A few Kumara Park West households keep a light scooter on a first floor terrace, where it is safe from theft and the street. Getting it down for a move tempts people to suggest a rope over the balcony, the way a sofa sometimes comes down. Not for a bike. It comes down the stairs, carried by enough hands, with the steps protected.

Bike Shifting

Bike Shifting in Kumara Park West, Bangalore

Some older buildings in Kumara Park West have staircases built for people rather than furniture, and our packers page there explains when hoisting a sofa over a balcony on ropes is safe and when it isn't. A handful of households have a different upstairs problem: a scooter.

It sounds unusual, but it happens. A first floor flat with a large terrace and no safe parking below. A family that had a scooter stolen from the street once and decided never again. A light moped or a small electric scooter carried up the stairs by two people every night, or kept on the terrace permanently and ridden rarely. Over time, it becomes normal.

On moving day, it has to come down, and someone usually suggests the balcony. A rope, a couple of strong people, lower it gently into the street, as they have seen done with furniture. Please don't.

A bike is the wrong shape for a rope. Its weight is concentrated low and to one side, around the engine or battery. Ropes slip on its smooth panels and catch on its levers and mirrors. It swings as it descends, and a swinging bike hits the wall or the balcony edge. If a rope slips, it drops onto the street below, where people walk. No insurance, ours or anyone's, covers a bike being dropped from a balcony by friends.

The stairs are the right route. A light scooter comes down with three of our crew: the lead walks backwards below it, steering and braking with the bars, while two behind take the weight under the grab rail and the frame. Anything heavier gets a fourth pair of hands. They move one stair at a time, calling each step, and the scooter never leans. A mat or flattened carton goes over the stair edges so floorboard and tile never touch.

Before the day, measure. Will the scooter pass the stair turns with its mirrors on, or do they come off? Is there a grille, a gate or a door frame narrower than the handlebars? Is there light on the stairs? Send us a short video from the terrace to the street door.

If the scooter is an EV with a removable battery, take the battery out and carry it down separately; it makes the carry much lighter.

At the new home, plan safe ground level parking from the start, so the bike never has to go upstairs again.

Think about why it went upstairs in the first place. If it was theft, ask the new building about its guard, cameras and lockable bays, and buy a good disc lock and a cover. If it was rain, a covered bay solves it. Either way, a scooter kept at ground level is easier to ride, and you are more likely to use it.

Neighbours on the stairs deserve a word too. A scooter coming down a shared staircase blocks it for ten minutes. Tell the other families the time, and ask them to keep children and shoes off the steps then.

Scooters

Scooter and Scooty Shifting in Kumara Park West

Scooter and scooty shifting from a Kumara Park West terrace is a carry, not a push. Empty the boot completely to save weight, unbolt any top box, and check the tyres hold air so the scooter rolls once it reaches the street.

Electric

EV Scooter Shifting in Kumara Park West

An electric scooter carried down stairs is far lighter with its battery out. If the battery is removable, one person carries it down first, padded. If it is fixed, plan for four people. Give the maker and battery type as you book.

Intercity

Two Wheeler Transport from Kumara Park West to Other Cities

A terrace kept scooter going to another city comes down the stairs the same way, then goes on a carrier. For that distance, the carrier charge is per kilometre. At the far end, a two wheeler should be delivered to ground level parking, not carried up another flight.

Checklist

Before Your Bike Is Collected in Kumara Park West

  • Fuel

Ride the tank down to reserve in the days before collection. A small amount is fine; a full tank is not wanted on a loaded vehicle.

  • Papers

Photocopies of the RC, the insurance policy and your photo ID travel with the bike. Keep the originals, especially the RC, with you. If the RC is not in your name, mention it when you book.

  • Condition record

Photograph the bike from every side and at the odometer. The crew also notes its condition at pickup, and you keep a copy of that note.

  • Insurance

Transit insurance is available on a value you declare. Keep the bike's own motor insurance valid for the journey as well.

  • At delivery

Check the bike against the pickup note and your photographs before signing, and point out anything new while the crew is still there.

  • Handover

If someone else will hand over or receive the bike, tell us who when you book, and we will confirm what they need to have with them.

Good to Know

What a Bike Move Does Not Include

  • We do not ride your bike to the new address. It travels on a vehicle, standing upright and strapped at the frame.
  • Ride the tank down to reserve before pickup. A near empty tank is safer on a loaded vehicle.
  • We do not repair, service or start a bike that will not start. Tell us at booking so it is loaded the right way.
  • Helmets, jackets and tools travel in a carton or with you, never strapped to the bike.
  • RC transfer, address change and re-registration in a new state are yours to do, or an agent's.
