Bike Shifting in Kundara

For a worker's bike, the question is simpler but easy to get wrong. If the bike is parked inside the factory or unit compound, or at quarters within it, it can only leave through the security post. And security is there to stop things leaving without permission.

From the guard's point of view, a carrier arriving to take a bike out of the compound looks exactly like a carrier arriving to take something it shouldn't. They'll want proof that the bike belongs to someone entitled to remove it, and that the management knows.

Here's what usually works.

Get a gate pass from the employer. Ask the unit's office or HR for a vehicle gate pass with your name, the vehicle number and the day it leaves. Some units have a standard form; others write a letter on the letterhead. Either is fine, as long as it's signed and dated.

Tell security in advance. Let the security post know the day and rough time the carrier will come, and give them the gate pass beforehand if you can. A guard who has seen the pass already is much quicker on the day.

Be there, or send a named person. The guard will want to see someone they recognise from the unit standing next to the bike. If you've already left, name a colleague who can do it, and put their name on the pass.

Expect a register entry. Most security posts record vehicles going in and out. The carrier's number, the bike's number and your name will be written down. That's normal, and it protects you too.

Check the carrier's access. Some compounds don't allow outside vehicles past the gate. In that case, the bike is wheeled to the gate and loaded outside. Ask security which applies before the day.

Mind personal items in the shed. A helmet on the shed hook, a rain suit in a locker, a lock chain round a pillar: workers often keep these at the bike's spot inside the compound. Collect them before the day, since you may not be allowed back in once your pass expires.

Clean off the workshop. A bike parked near machinery collects oil, metal dust or clay. Wipe it down before collection so it doesn't mark other bikes on the carrier.

Time the collection around the shifts. When a shift changes, the gate is busy with workers on foot and on two wheelers, and security is at its most stretched. A carrier arriving then will wait. Ask security for a quiet hour, often mid-morning or mid-afternoon, and book the collection for then.

If you're leaving the job altogether, the bike's gate pass is often part of the exit process: the ID card, the locker key, the canteen account and the vehicle sticker are handed back together. Ask HR to issue the gate pass at the same time, so you don't have to come back for it.

And if the bike is registered to the company rather than to you, as some works bikes are, it isn't yours to move. Ask the employer whether you can buy it, or hand it back.

Some units let workers charge electric scooters at the shed. Make sure your charger and any adapter come home with you, not left in the shed. The gate pass should name the scooter and the charger if security checks equipment leaving. Share the EV's make at booking.
